Book Swap for Summer Reading

EndofYear 099

Around 2,500 books left in the hands of Club Blvd.'s eager readers this week. 500 of these books were donated by Read Seed, a community organization that helps children build a library of books at home. Stop by their office at 3020 Pickett Rd. in Durham every Tuesday and receive a free book! As students visited the Swap they learned about the 'summer slide' that can happen if they don't read over the summer. Karlene Fyffe from the Durham County Library was here to talk with students about signing up for the summer reading program at the public library. Miss Stitsinger encouraged K-2 students to challenge themselves to 75 days of Summer Reading and 3-5 students have a READO card to guide their reading this summer. Remember that the Club Blvd. Media Center is open every Wednesday this summer from 8:30-5:30pm for book check-out! Have fun reading this summer! :)

Hispanic Family Reading Nights

Media_miscellaneous 025
This year Miss Stitsinger began hosting fun, interactive reading nights for Spanish-speaking families. These monthly literacy nights are held once a month in the Media Center and have featured guest readers from the public library and even a bilingual puppet show performed by 8th graders from W.G. Pearson Middle School. The best part of these nights is seeing how much fun families have reading together and the excitement over our new collection of Spanish language books. It is so much fun for Miss Stitsinger to have families visiting the Media Center on a regular basis to check out these new materials. Details will be coming soon about our next Hispanic Family Reading Night which will be held after Spring Break! Please contact Miss Stitsinger if you have any questions :)

Vocaroo!

Miss Stitsinger is learning how to use a free, cool resource on the web that records your voice and allows you to play the message back. It's called Vocaroo--neat name, huh? The web address is http://vocaroo.com. Let's see if it works... can you hear the message? It is in English and Spanish.
